List of Accredited Nursing Schools in Ghana (2023)

Once upon a time, Ghana used to suffer inefficiency in its health sector. A major cause of this was the lack of sufficient medical personnel. A lot of people tie the term “medical personnel” to doctors alone, it goes beyond that. There are several other personnel who work under the health industry including nurses. As a matter of fact, the role nurses play in achieving efficient healthcare cannot be overemphasized.

Accredited Nursing Schools in Ghana

In a bid to achieving its goal of better healthcare, Ghana has worked on setting up more accredited nursing schools all over the country. In this article, we shall consider the list of accredited nursing schools in Ghana. We will also look into entry requirements to study nursing in Ghana.

List of Accredited Nursing Schools in Ghana 

Accredited nursing schools in Ghana can be grouped into public-owned and private-owned nursing schools. They both run the same curriculum and they must be accredited by the Ghana Ministries of Education and Health. Let’s dive straight in without any more waste of time.

Private Nursing schools in Ghana (Accredited)

Western Hills Nurses’ Training College

This nurse training college ranks as one of the best in the country. The college, located in Accra, was established in 2010 and gained accreditation in the same year by the National Accreditation Board. Courses offered include:

Narh-Bita College

Narh-Bita School of Nursing was birthed from a private clinic. The clinic after establishment grew very fast but faced a major challenge which was lack of efficient staff. This challenge gave rise to the establishment of the college for the training of the needed medical practitioners. Courses offered here include:

  • Nursing
  • Health assistant clinical
  • Community health nursing
  • ENT nursing
  • Ophthalmic

WASSCE and SSCE applicants can apply for admission at the school. The WASSCE applicants need to have 48 points and A1 to E8 in three core and three electives. The SSCE applicants should have a minimum of 36 aggregate points and A to D in six subjects, both core, and electives. The school was established in 2008 and it is located in Tema, Ghana.

Premier Nurses Training College

This training college, which was established in September 2014, is located in Kumasi. The school, on establishment, ran short nursing courses till the National Accreditation Board stamped its approval. The school also received approval from the Nurses and Midwifery Council. The major courses offered here are:

  • Registered general nursing
  • Health assistant clinical

To enroll you just need to visit the school’s website and complete the admission form. You have to be between 18 and 35 years to apply and must have written SSCE or WASSCE.

Nightingale School of Nursing

This school has a reputation for producing efficient medical personnel through the use of world-class curricula and equipment. It is located in Adenta, Accra. Courses offered here include:

  • Diploma holders can apply.
  • WASSCE holders having a minimum of C6 in six subjects, three core, and three electives.
  • Unlike other nursing courses, there is no age limit.

Holy Family Nursing & Midwifery Training College

This is one of the oldest nurse training colleges in Ghana. It was established in 1974 in Accra, Ghana. At the time of inception, it was under the management of the Catholic Church. The school now works in conjunction with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to offer the following courses:
