On December 19, 1935, the pharmaceutical society in Ghana was founded. The society was formerly known as “Gold Coast Pharmacists and Druggist Union and the Chemist Defense Association.” The Pharmaceutical Society was initiated by some pharmacists led by William Ayiah.
The society was created the help unite pharmacists generally in Ghana. It was also to ensure that there is a high standard of professionalism among pharmacists. The pharmaceutical society also acts as a regulating body for pharmacists.
How to Become a Pharmacist in Ghana
There is this stereotype about pharmacists. Often times, we feel that selling drugs over the counter is all they do. Well, being a licensed pharmacist is more than just selling drugs and medical supplies.
In order to become a licensed pharmacist, one has to undergo proper training. Getting schooled in the university is necessary for exposure to information that will help you to thrive as a pharmacist.
You will be taught about the function of drugs, the biochemical mechanisms, and so much more.
In order to become a licensed pharmacist in Ghana, you must satisfy the following requirements.
- A Degree in Pharmacy or a qualification equivalent to a degree that is acceptable in Ghana.
- Must be able to speak and write English.
- One must undergo internship training at an accredited institute in Ghana.
- After the internship, you must undertake and pass the Ghana Pharmacy professional Examination.
